ROSS ELEMENTARY WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

Friday May 8th, 2026.

A Message from Your Principal, Mr. Frew

Every year, Ross Elementary participates in the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI) and Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA). These tools help schools better understand student well-being, connectedness, and academic growth. The MDI gathers student voice around areas such as belonging, relationships, wellness, and school experiences, while the FSA provides a snapshot of literacy and numeracy achievement. Together, this data helps us reflect on both the hearts and minds of our learners.

I am incredibly proud to share that the data tells a very positive story about Ross Elementary and the caring community we continue to build together.

Here are a few highlights from this year’s data:

• 92% of students reported high connectedness with adults at school
• 76% of students reported a strong sense of belonging at Ross
• 84% of students shared high confidence in themselves as learners
• 100% of Grade 5 students reported participating in organized activities outside of school
• 87% of students regularly eat meals with adults at home
• 78% of students reported strong connectedness with adults in their family
• 63% of Grade 4 students are currently meeting or exceeding provincial expectations in Literacy

These numbers reflect something very special happening at Ross. Our students feel cared for, connected, supported, and engaged both in and out of school.

While we know there is still important work ahead to support all learners, especially in literacy growth, these results reflect the tremendous effort of our students, teachers, support staff, and families. Literacy growth remains a key focus at Ross, and we are committed to continuing to strengthen supports and opportunities for every child.

One of the strongest messages from the data is this: Ross students know they are cared for. That matters deeply.

I want to sincerely thank our incredible staff for the work they do each and every day. The relationships they build, the care they provide, and the high expectations they hold for students are clearly making a difference. Thank you as well to our families and community for your continued partnership and support. Schools thrive when communities work together, and Ross is a wonderful example of that.

We are proud of where we are, excited about where we are going, and committed to continuing to help every Ross Tiger thrive!!
