Shape of the Week - May 12 - 16

Dear Parents/Guardians,

May 13- Parent Appreciation/PAC AGM @ 6 in person

May 16- Professional Development/No School

Message to community:

We are excited to invite all parents to our Parent Appreciation event on Tuesday, May 13, in the library. This special occasion will feature performances by students from Division 5, 6, and 7, who have been working hard to prepare a song to express their gratitude. The children are eager to showcase their efforts and share their appreciation with you. We hope you can join us for this wonderful celebration and enjoy the talents and hard work of our students.

I wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks the PAC and parents for the wonderful appreciation event you organized for the staff at Ross. The taco bar was absolutely delicious, and the generous gifts were greatly appreciated. Many of our staff members have commented on how lovely the event was and how much they enjoyed it.

Your thoughtfulness and generosity truly made a positive impact on everyone. Thank you for recognizing and celebrating our hard work in such a delightful way.

At our school, we celebrated Family Day with great enthusiasm, recognizing the rich diversity within our community and the many different kinds of families that make up our population. All of the classes made a gift for their families. As Mother's Day approaches, we want to extend our warmest wishes to all the mothers in our community. Your love, dedication, and support are truly appreciated, and we hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day filled with joy and celebration.

As part of Safety Awareness Month, we are emphasizing the importance of preparedness and comfort for our students. We kindly ask parents to contribute by providing a comfort kit for their child. This kit should include a picture or note, an emergency blanket, a rain poncho, and a small toy. These items will help ensure that your child (ren) feel secure and cared for in any situation. Your support in providing these kits is greatly appreciated and plays a crucial role in our efforts to maintain a safe and nurturing environment for all our students. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to our children's well-being.

Learning

Students in Division 7 have been enthusiastically learning about the sounds and writing of the letter's "x" and "y." While "x" has been relatively straightforward, "y" has presented a bit of a challenge for them. In addition to their phonics lessons, they have been exploring the concept of community and the various jobs that people do within it. It's always delightful to hear their unique perspectives on what their adults do for work, as they bring a fresh and imaginative view to these roles.

Parking

If you are driving your child to school, please park on the street and walk to get your child.  If you are dropping off using the bus lane, please be aware that the bus arrives at 8:45am and you need to be quick about the kids getting out of the car. If you drop off in the lane closest to the road, please have them exit onto the grass and use the crosswalk to cross the street. Please do not park and leave your vehicle in the bus lane.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is already growing. If you are able to label your child’s clothes, we do our very best to get any clothes left on the playground back to them. We will put out our Lost and Found every Friday, so please come and have look.

Absences

If your child is going to be absent, please use the Safe Arrival which can be found on the Ross website - https://ross.abbyschools.ca/safe-arrival  . If they are late, please come and check in at the office. If you are not going to be riding the bus, please also let us know that you are picking up your child.  Our phone number is 604-856-6079.
