Message to community:
Bring Wheels to School
We are excited to announce our "Bring Your Wheels to School" event this Friday, June 6th! To ensure a smooth and safe experience, the gym will be open on Thursday after school for you to bring in your bikes or scooters. If you have any extra helmets or wheels, we kindly ask you to consider lending them to students who may not have their own. Please note that electric wheels are not permitted.
Grade 4/5 Track Meet
We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Grade 4/5 Track Meet on Wednesday, June 4th. To ensure the event runs smoothly, we are seeking parent volunteers to assist with handing out ribbons, helping with the high jump, and guiding students to their events. If you are available to help, please let me know. Additionally, please ensure your child wears proper runners, dresses appropriately for the weather, and brings water for hydration. Proper footwear is essential for participating in running events. We look forward to a fantastic day of sportsmanship and fun!
2025/2026 Kindergarteners
Last Thursday we hosted our "Ready, Set, Learn" event for kindergarten, and it was wonderful to see all the new families in the building. We are excited to welcome them into our community. On the flip side, our Grade 5 students visited Reimer and returned very enthusiastic about their experience. This time of year brings a mix of emotions as we prepare to say goodbye to our older students while welcoming new ones. It's a time of transition, growth, and excitement for everyone involved.
Natural Disaster Preparations
As we prepare for the possibility of a natural disaster, we want to ensure the safety and comfort of all our students. A "comfort kit" can greatly help your child while they wait for you to arrive. These kits will be given back when you leave Ross Elementary. We kindly ask that you continue to bring them in and give them to your teacher. Your cooperation is essential in making sure your child feels secure and cared for during any emergency situation.
Learning
This week, I had the pleasure of spending time with Division 2, where we delved into the world of poetry. It was delightful to hear the students rhyming and realizing that music lyrics fall under the poetry genre. We also engaged in language games that helped them apply their phonics knowledge to create new words. An interesting fact I learned was that "hilt" refers to the handle of a sword.
The Grade 4 students in our division eagerly wrote letters to welcome the 2025/2026 school year kindergarten class to our "Ready, Set, Learn" event yesterday. They were really excited about this activity, and we are hoping that this will help build a sense of community and belonging for our new students. They are already looking forward to discovering who their buddies will be next year.

Parking
If you are driving your child to school, please park on the street and walk to get your child. If you are dropping off using the bus lane, please be aware that the bus arrives at 8:45am and you need to be quick about the kids getting out of the car. If you drop off in the lane closest to the road, please have them exit onto the grass and use the crosswalk to cross the street. Please do not park and leave your vehicle in the bus lane.
Lost and Found
Our lost and found is already growing. If you are able to label your child’s clothes, we do our very best to get any clothes left on the playground back to them. We will put out our Lost and Found every Friday, so please come and have look.
Absences
If your child is going to be absent, please use the Safe Arrival which can be found on the Ross website - https://ross.abbyschools.ca/safe-arrival . If they are late, please come and check in at the office. If you are not going to be riding the bus, please also let us know that you are picking up your child. Our phone number is 604-856-6079.
